Joining your friends and family to celebrate life and love is always a special time.

But in 2020, these bonding moments have been rare, postponed or cancelled, and in all honesty, very scary.

That’s why the day we finally got the chance to celebrate Baby Faren by hosting her christening and baby dedication we took our time to breathe in the day, love on our loved ones and soak in these beautiful memories. After having to cancel the baby shower, having to give birth alone as a pandemic swept through the world, being locked in the house for months, staying away from friends and family; we absolutely needed this day. It’s a day we’d waited on for so long and finally it was here!

On October 4, 2020, the day after she turned six months, we dedicated our baby girl back to the Lord!

With our families and Faren’s godparents surrounding us, Faren was christened at the Church of God of Prophecy East Street in Nassau, Bahamas. It’s the church where my husband grew up and where we got married. I was so afraid that Faren would cry throughout the entire service because she absolutely hates loud noises and I assumed the drums, the singing and the preaching would set her off. I even packed her favorite pacifier and ear muffs just to be on the safe side. Making matters worse, the 11:30 a.m. start time clashed with her nap time so I just knew I would’ve had to give that good ole church finger and excuse myself to the bathroom to calm her down. But she surprised me and was so well behaved during the entire service! Not one cry, not one whimper.

By the time as we made it back to the family house for photos and dinner, Faren had had enough of us, though. We made her miss her nap time and had her wearing stockings and a fluffy dress all day, she was absolutely over us and wanted no parts of a photoshoot. We barely managed to get images that didn’t show her screaming hysterically.

Faren’s dress was handmade by her grandmother with materials from my wedding dress. We opted for a cute umpire waist dress with lace puff sleeves, a gorgeous head piece and a long train. Her shoes and bib from our favorite baby boutique Sandbox (Bahamas) perfectly matched the day!

The minute we stopped taking photos, I changed her clothes and put on Coco Melon for a few minutes, this little girl was up dancing and giggling. I guess she’s like her mommy though, who loves a good backyard family get together. With a whole baby shower planned and all the items bought for it now in storage for Faren’s first birthday, I was so tempted to pull out all the stops for her christening dedication. But, I had to remember we could only have a gathering for 20 people or less. We ended up having dinner at my in-law’s using a beautiful dinner table my stepdad built for the shower. I decorated the space with colorful flowers, matching placemats and bistro lights.

Clearly Faren loved the cake! We got baby succulents for the godparents and family as parting gifts. As we water our plants and watch them grow, we plan to do the same for our baby girl; water, love and watch her grow.
