Let’s talk about passion, consistency and how they’re intimately tied to your success.
I remember in ninth grade, all the girls in my class were signing up to join the after school dance club. I preferred to join the volleyball team and use my afternoons perfecting my spike. But I felt left out every day I went to school and they’d share the stories of the newest moves they were learning or the next event they were getting ready for. Their performance costumes were so pretty and I childishly envied them.
So I decided to sign up for the dance club too and the very first practice I went to, I regretted it. I soon started missing practices (to go back to my real love volleyball), I became unfazed by their stories, became completely disinterested and inconsistent simply because this dancer dream was never mine to begin with.
Have you ever wondered why you sometimes start a project but could never complete it?
Have you ever thought about why your interest in something keeps waning over time?
Ever questioned why, after all this work, you still feel unfulfilled?
A possible answer to these questions is in the title of this post. I’ll say it again for those in the back!
You can’t be consistent about a dream that wasn’t yours to begin with.
It’s such a hard task, but sometimes we have to look in the mirror, like our girl Issa, and ask ourselves the tough questions:
Is this MY passion?
Do I love to do this?
Am I willing to do the work necessary to win, or do I only like what winning looks like?

So many people are falling in love with the success stories of others and trapping themselves into the same career paths hoping to mimic these triumphs; leaving their own passions to fade to black.
You’ll never be consistent with something you’re not genuinely passionate about.
Passion ignites something in you that makes you want to keep going even on the bad days.
Passion keeps you grinding, it keeps you focused, it keeps you…CONSISTENT!
Take it from the girl who quickly ditched that dance squad and became captain of her volleyball team!!
This is definitely me when persons ask me to do certain projects as favors and I don’t know how to say no 😩

This is true on so many levels but I find that even with the things I’m passionate about… consistency is still hard. Should consistency only be tied to passion?
Hi! I think passion + consistency are intimately tied and do determine our success. But there are other factors needed to succeed as well; work ethic, confidence, determination etc.

“You can’t be consistent with a dream that wasn’t yours to begin with” – I felt this to my core. After graduating from High School my mother wanted me to attend college to study nursing and said that she would not fund me through college if I did not choose that major. Nursing? Knowing me, it should have been obvious that “nursing” wasn’t a calling of mine. So many people get caught up on being “gov’ment workers” or the amount of money they’d make in a particular field that they choose careers that slowly eat away at them daily and fill them with unhappiness and misery. I was adamant that I would not study nursing and would find other means of funding if I had to, to study something that I was actually interested in. I was blessed with a scholarship and happily studied Mass Communications. My Mother was obviously bluffing and assisted in any way she could. MOS: Don’t allow anyone to tell you who or what you should be; after all, you have to live with the decisions made for your life, not them. So follow your heart(passion).

Hey Lady I am so appreciative of this post, my two daughters went on to college after high school and now I realize I was pushing their dream on my son. He is a hands on kinda guy who does not have a passion for college. He feels good having a job he love and is passionate about, even if it is a different job each day, Thank you for reminding me that one can be anointed for this and not that.

Yassss!!! I can relate! As I read this ,am thinking about mmmm,, what is it that I couldn’t finish? College! Yes it is ! As I remember my year of graduation from high school ..I went to College and started off pretty well. A’s B’s C’s …I took up a course that I barely had interested in, then my grades started to drop!. Never finished…About 13 years later…I’ve decided to go back. Why??, to accomplish some elses dream ! During these classes, I had many experiences and by heart had a passion for fashion! It was a struggle…starting my business and my studies. One was going to fail. It was such a high demand for me to be in my business, I started missing classes…on top of that I had a scholarship that I had to sadly let down. Within two years my business bloomed that took me so far.
Now I can truly say my passion is fashion …I LOVE WHAT I DO …EVEN WHEN TIRED I KEEP GOING !… I do not compete with the one who’s next to me, so if your in my shoe ,College is not for everyone..I’ve already started what college would of thought me, through experience and dedication!
Wow what a testimony. Sometimes we have to rebel and follow our passions. I always say I’d rather be broke and passion filled then rich and unfunfilled!

This was so timely! I ask myself daily, what are you really passionate about? It’s been really difficult because I’ve found that everything I try my hand at I’m good, I just don’t have a passion for it and it’s frustrating. Sigh, I’m keeping this on my prayer front so that I can really find my passion before it’s too late and end up becoming a person doing what’s required to get by.

Sheesh!!! This HITS HOME!! So many times we sign up for these courses, classes, or even projects simply because we see others doing it. I recently sat down with my counselor a few weeks ago to discuss THIS EXACT SAME THING!! He said, “you know Asline, the reason why every students contract is designed the way it is is because somewhere along th line and with time, your true passion reveals it self. And this is true. You just have to pay attention to the signs. Pay attention to what you daydream about th most. What you wake up and fall asleep thinking about. You have to pay attention to you not being able to read a full paragraph in that text book of the subject you once thought was what you truly wanted to do.
