BabyChella: Faren’s ‘Chella’ Themed 1st Birthday Party
Apr 15, 2021
We FINALLY had BabyChella!
The baby shower that was cancelled and had to be stored away was transformed into an epic first birthday party for Faren! We finally got to shower our baby girl with all the bells and whistles, balloons and bubbles, flower crowns and love we’d planned to for so long.
For one long year all the items we bought for our ‘Chella themed baby shower sat in storage as we waited for the pandemic to pipe down; and we promised to throw the dopest, the flyest, most fun-filled party for our daughter’s first birthday…and that we did!
We combined the spirit of Afrochella, with the vibes of the Coachella festival and hosted #FARENCHELLA!
My family is super talented, so we DIY’ed the entire event! From the seating to the tables to the streamers to the photo wall, we did it all ourselves. Our homemade floor seating areas were filled out with bright, colorful pillows, floral arrangements from The Greenhouse Bahamas, carpeting and low wooden tables for comfy enjoyment. From the minute I envisioned this party, I saw bright, vibrant colors, big balloons and a main seating area that stole the show. Our A-shaped table was the perfect showstopper. My stepfather built the table that we accented with daisies in slender white vases and colorful place mats.
Flower crowns and groovy sunglasses, festival bands and the most gorgeous streamers brought the color and vibes to FarenChella! The pastel hued streamer set up acted as the backdrop for our photo booth which was the cause of many laughs, poorly synchronized movements and amazing photos! We had cotton candy in branded cups, a play area for the kids, face painting and an illustrator on hand who turned our photos into cartoons! This was one of my fave parts of the event!
The food was absolutely delicious! Prepared by highly sought after Bahamian Executive Chef Wayne Moncur, our menu consisted of gourmet hot dogs with all the fixins’, shrimp mac ‘n cheese with toasted parmesan bread crumbs, dry rubbed roasted rooster wings, soy and garlic glazed salmon, herb fingerling potatoes, lavender lemonade and ginger lemonade! YUM!
After a year of being locked down and locked away from family and friends, we savored every second of Babychella by loving on our loved ones and creating amazing memories. It was tough having a baby in the midst of a pandemic and having to go at alone for so long. But the party reminded us that we are loved beyond measure and that the good times might be delayed, but never denied!
